Portugal Wedding Photography - Carly & Phil
As I start to write this I am 35000 feet up. I’m on my way to shoot my first destination wedding photography abroad on the Algarve Coast in Portugal. It’s the holy grail for a lot of wedding photographers, getting to travel to new exotic and generally warmer climbs. Me included. I’ve always loved to travel and I spent 10 months travelling around the world about 15 years ago. Back then I only had my Olympus MUii film camera and many rolls of 35mm film. I took plenty of pictures and I’d post the films back to my mum. She then had them developed and had them all waiting in an album for me on my return.
It’s different now, in that I probably take more shots in a day than I did then in the whole 10 months. I like that film can make you stop and take your time over the photos. That said I pretty much just shoot digital at the moment for all sorts of reasons, mainly for it’s versatility at weddings.
Wedding Photography Abroad
I’m calling this my first official destination wedding. Although one of the early weddings I shot was my sisters in Toronto back in 2010. One key difference now is that I’m travelling with probably four times the amount of gear I had back then. And at 10 times the cost too! It’s now 7 years since my first wedding and as I write this on the plane, it is my first official day as a self employed photographer, so it feels a little profound and very exciting to be flying to Bergau in Portugal to do something I love. Rather than putting on my waterproofs to cycle through the cold and rain across Manchester, to sit at a boring desk and do a boring job. Now I can say I’m a photographer and that feels good. I can also now say that I’m a destination wedding photographer. I had humble digs and I’d booked my own accommodation through Airbnb
I was in Portugal three nights with Carley and Phil for their elopement and below is a selection of images from across the whole weekend. It was a beautiful wedding in a very gorgeous part of the world. I loved every minute. The reception was at Espiche Golf Club which is set in a beautiful landscape. The whole area has very stunning scenery. If you’re looking for someone to help you with your Portugal Wedding Photography please do get in touch!
